It is a pleasure to invite you to the 51st annual Commonwealth Prayer Breakfast. Again this year the Breakfast will be on the opening day of the General Assembly session: Wednesday, January 11, 2017 at 7:00 a.m. in the Greater Richmond Convention Center.
Each year, many of Virginia's elected government leaders gather with citizens from throughout the Commonwealth to reaffirm our trust in God, recognize his reconciling power and seek his guidance. Yet this year, after a contentious election that exposed deep divisions in our nation, reconciliation and guidance are needed even more. These words from the Book of Common Prayer express our heartfelt prayer:
“O God … Look with compassion on the whole human family; take away the arrogance and hatred which infect our hearts; break down the walls that separate us; unite us in bonds of love; and work through our struggle and confusion to accomplish your purposes on earth …”
Our guest speaker this year is known for helping leaders and citizens “work through struggle and confusion” in our culture. Gabe Lyons is an author and national leader in the faith community who is the founder of Q (Qideas.org), a series of initiatives that explore questions at the intersection of faith and public life. Q educates leaders and citizens on their roles and opportunities to embody the Gospel in public life through podcasts and other “new media” outlets; an annual conference; and Q Commons, a semiannual simulcast to more than 80 cities.
We also will hear from Paul Trible, the president of Christopher Newport University and formerly U.S. Senator from Virginia, about the positive impact of small groups in strengthening one’s faith. Musical selections will be provided by talented student musicians from CNU.
Individual tickets are $35. Please consider purchasing a Table Host package of 10 seats for only $350. As a Table Host you are encouraged to invite elected officials, business leaders, pastors, students and others from your area. You may purchase tickets by credit card on-line at commonwealthprayerbreakfast.org. (There is a small processing fee for individual tickets; no processing fee is added for Table Host packages.) For additional information, please contact VACPB @aol.com.
We look forward to seeing you on January 11th, as we pray for wisdom, guidance and strength for our public servant leaders during the coming year. Thank you very much.
